"U.P. & WESTERN is an RMS operated Rail Road."
I have selected the Railroad Management System to print the car movements for my Freight, Locals and Passenger Trains.
This program is very simple to operate on a Windows Computer. (Data is entering and revised through many small Windows.) It allows for up to 13 trains and 4 local switchers to be completely printed out before a session begins. The RMS program allows up to 15 cities per train route, 20 industries per city, 100 cars per train and up to 6 locomotives can be assigned. The program even allows you to select your own cars for "Staged Trains."
The U.P. & WESTERN R.R. is now approaching the limit of the program with printouts for 12 Freight Trains and 4 Local switchers. It now has 220 cars and 180 industries. With this amount of print outs, I have found that it will keep about 12 people busy for more than 3 hours. I also have two major cities visited by most of the 12 Freights. With a City Crew Program, I can make more print outs of Pick Up and Set Off of cars for the Freights that visit these two major cities. This adds two more possible operators jobs (at the two cities) to help in getting cars for the Freight trains. If there are no City operators, the Freight Engineer does his own city switching.
The things I like about the RMS3 program are:
YARD MAKEUP ORDER:
gives the blocking of the cars by the City visited.
(This is for a Yard operator but makes it easier for Train operator.)
TRAIN ORDER:
gives Pick Up of cars on left, and ALL Set Outs on the Right.
(With Switching Advisor many notes at City or Ind. can be added.)
ARRIVING CONSIST:
gives you a check of ALL cars returning to the Yard.
(It also tells you where the car is going next, if not empty.)
The RMS3 program has other features such as: Scheduling of Passenger Trains, printouts of all City, Industries, Routes, Cars, Loco. and Car Locations. It even has a Maintenance of Way section to record operation problems, and when they were repaired.
